Kourtney’s engagement leaves her in a sombre state as her kids are missing from the celebrations
The new episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians just came out on Hulu, and emotions were flying from all directions starting with Kourtney Kardashian’s engagement to Travis Barker while her kids were missing in action.
Although Kourtney, 43, was over the moon when the love of her life, Travis Barker, 46, asked for her hand in marriage, this however left her with mixed feelings as everyone in her family and circle of friends were there except her three kids Mason, 12, Penelope, 10, and Reign, 7.
During the confessional in the episode of the “Kardashians” show on Hulu, Kourtney’s concern for her kids being absent from the proposal is they may feel like they are excluded from the surprise and the decision. “I know my mom made that decision but it probably wasn’t her best”, said the unimpressed Kourtney.
Barker proposed to Kourtney on a surprise, sentimental and romantic occasion surrounded by an array of red roses and lit candles at the beachside hotel in Santa Barbara, California in October 2021. The Blink-182 drummer proposed to the reality tv star with a stunning lavish diamond ring worth a whooping $1 million. Barker asked his sweetheart Kourtney for a hand in marriage in front of their family members and friends, a proposal that he had been arranging for months.
Kourtney’s three kids were missing at the engagement and this was apparently an executive decision taken by none other than the momager of the Kardashian/Jenner clan Kris Jenner.
During the proposal celebrations, Kris explained to Kylie, Kendal, Khloe, and Kim for not inviting Kourtney’s kids to the proposal in the episode although Barker’s three children, daughters Atiana De La Hoya, 22, Alabama Luella Barker, 15, and son Landon Asher Barker,18, were there.
The momager said she felt that it is up to Kourtney “to break it to her kids the way she wants”. The momager said: “Listen for us to have to lie to Scott under false pretense it would have been hard for all of us.
Kourtney’s kids had varied reactions to the news of the engagement
There were mixed emotions from Kourtney’s two younger kids Penelope and Reign when she broke the news of the engagement to them over the phone as they were not at the engagement.
Penelope got upset and broke down in tears upon hearing about the engagement when her mother broke it to her over the phone. Kourtney was with Kim during the call with her 10-year-old daughter, trying to calm her down. During the confessional interview of the episode, Kourtney said Penelope took it hard. “I think it is a big change for her and even though she loves Travis, I think she doesn’t know what that means”, said Kourtney.
However the youngest kid, Reign was thrilled to hear the great news which he reacted to with excitement which was a relief for Kourtney after Penelope broke down. Mason could not be reached, apparently, his phone kept ringing without a response.
Disick had a hard pill to swallow seeing Kourtney gone for good.
Scott Disick, 39, whom Kourtney shares her three kids with has come to terms with his ex’s new life. Disick and Kourtney have been together for over a decade and their whirlwind romance ended for good in November 2015. Disick felt that since Braker’s kids were at the proposal, his kids should have been there otherwise they felt excluded.
In the April 14 episode of the Kardashians series on Hulu, Scott had a heart-to-heart conversation with Khloe about how he feels about Kourtney moving on with Barker. Over the years Kourtney has not been in any serious relationships until she moved on with Barker which became a hard pill for Disick to swallow as his ex finally met someone serious.
In the confessional interview of the episode, Disick candidly admitted:“It was a huge adjustment losing Kourtney romantically and now it is a huge adjustment losing her as a best friend”, he confessed. The founder of Flip it with Disick admitted that he does not want to lose his family as they are the only ones he has since losing both his parents. “I would rather be around family than not at all”, he added.
Khloe came to her mother’s defense
Khloe Kardashian, 38, was understanding of her mother’s decision to not invite Kourtney’s kids, whom she shares with Scott Disick. The Good American founder thought it would have been a hard decision for anyone to take given the fact that they would not know the right thing to do. Responding to Hulu’s new episode of ‘The Kardashians’, Khloe wrote on Twitter: “I don’t think anyone knew what the right thing to do was in this situation. I think my mom did her best.” The third of the Kardashian sisters added that she knows for a fact that nothing was malicious. “I think everyone was just doing the best they can with such a sensitive subject,” she added via Twitter.
